Believing in salvation through Jesus Christ, Douglas Cooper Windham, age 90 went to his Heavenly home on Tuesday October 8, 2019. He was born on February 25, 1929 in Homewood, MS. Visitation will be held at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS on Sunday October 13, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday October 14, 2019 at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at Homewood Methodist Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Douglas was preceded in death by his dad, Orr Windham and mother, Myrna Mae Brown Windham and Ruel Oden Windham; his brothers, Henry Orr Windham, Dale Oden Windham and son in law, Eddie Lytal. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Christine Harmon Windham; daughters, Joan Windham Moore ( Michael), Debra Lytal Windham; grandchildren, Emily Moore Jones (Josh), Ryan Michael Moore (Robin), Adam Douglas Moore ( Ashley), Frances Lytal Carter (Scott), Mary Rebecca Casey (Chandler); great-grandchildren, Emily Elaine Jones, Jasper Nathaniel Jones, Noah Ryan Moore, Nolan Windham Moore, Harper Elaine Moore, Kaylee Marie Moore, Lorelai Avery Carter and David Jude Carter. He is also survived by his sister Iva Nell Windham Foreman (Cotton) and sister in law Peggy Windham.
Pallbearers will be Scott Carter, Josh Jones, Ryan Moore, Adam Moore, Paul Windham and Lewis Harmon. Honorary Pallbearers will be William Earl Adair, Clyde Reves, Jr., Ricky Foreman, John McMullen, Jr., Ronnie Foreman, Rusty Foreman and Larry Horsely, as well as Adult III Class-Men, Al Boleware, Gene Adams, Randy Roberts, Lamar Cox, J.R. Presley and Dennis Sandifer.
Douglas enlisted in the United States Army August 3, 1948, he served over 21 years retiring at the rank of Master Sargent E-8. He had several overseas tours including Guam, The Korean Conflict, Alaska, Germany and Vietnam. During his career he received numerous commendations, medals and awards, some of which include The National Defense Service Medal, Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal-5 times and Combat Infantry Badge. Upon retirement he made his home in Pearl, MS. He started a second career as Director of Transportation with Jackson Public Schools. He then went on to own Buses Unlimited where he worked until health issues forced him to retire in 1999.
Douglas was a member of Pearson Baptist Church for 50 years, he was a faithful member, served as deacon, chairman of deacons, Sunday school teacher and worked with the youth. Douglas served twenty three years on the Board of Trustees at Rankin General Hospital.
First and foremost Douglas loved God, his family and his country. He was blessed to see his grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed being with them every chance he had.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Pearson Baptist Church or the Wounded Warriors of Mississippi.
