William (Smokie) Savoy Jackson

May 20, 1941 — August 4, 2025

Morton

“Smokie” William Savoy Jackson peacefully went to his heavenly home on August 4, 2025. “Smokie” defied the odds from the time he was born. Not expected to live past the age of 16, he was 84 years old at the time of his death.

“Smokie” was best known for his infectious laughter and servant’s heart. When he wasn’t cracking jokes, you could find him watching his favorite western or enjoying a WWE battle. He loved a good gospel singing and lived the life of a true Christian man. A person would find it hard to find a man who loved as genuinely and deeply as “Smokie”. He did not meet a stranger, and always had a kind word for anyone and everyone. He loved his time socializing with his friends at the Mississippi Care Center of Morton and could be found anywhere there was someone to laugh with. He was a very special person who touched the hearts and lives of so many and will be deeply missed.

“Smokie” was born on May 20, 1941, in Leake County, MS. He is survived by his brother Larry Jackson (Patsy) of Forest, Mississippi, his sister Pat Hawkins (Scotty) of Lorena, Mississippi, his nephews Eddie Jackson, Harvey Jackson, Robert Jackson, and Jacob “Duli” Comans (Amanda), his nieces Danielle Yarbrough (Scotty), Gabby Jackson, and Teresa Phillips, and a host of great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Clyde Jackson, and his mother, Audrey Mae Freeny Jackson.

Pallbearers will include Ryan Jackson, Baker Yarbrough, Zach Comans, Braeden Yarbrough, Scotty Yarbrough, and K’Hari Parker.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 4:30 PM  until 8:00 PM at Lorena Baptist Church, Lorena, Mississippi. Additional visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Friday, August 8, at Lorena Baptist Church, with services to follow at 10:00 AM.
