William Earl Fortenberry, a lifelong resident of Morton, Mississippi, was born on October 21, 1955, in Scott County, Mississippi. He passed away peacefully at his residence in Morton on February 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and a passion for life that will be cherished by his family and friends.
William dedicated his career to being a sawmill operator at the International Paper Company, where his hard work and commitment made a significant impact on his community. Beyond his professional endeavors, William was known as an avid outdoorsman who embraced the beauty of nature. He found joy in hunting, horseback riding, and participating in horse shows. His love for animals was evident, particularly in his fondness for raising and homing pigeons.
Family was at the heart of William's life; he treasured spending time with his loved ones, especially attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. This deep family bond was a source of pride for William, who celebrated his 52 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Dorthy Jean Fortenberry.
William is survived by his wife, Dorthy; his two sons, Anthony Fortenberry (Kimberly) and Frankie Fortenberry (Renee); and his sister, Charlotte Polk. He leaves a devoted legacy through his grandchildren, Clara O'Berry, Austin Fortenberry, Kimberly Sumrall, Kaylee Fortenberry, Dixcie Fortenberry, Guage Fortenberry, Noah Traxler, Lashae Windham, Caleb Lawrence, and his great-grandchildren: Kirstyn, Whitley, Makynna, Holden Traxler, James, Desaray, Loretta O'Berry, Everleigh, Lacie Fortenberry, Kyler, Imagine, Louella, Blakely, and Evelyn Sumrall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Duncan and Odell Fortenberry.
Visitation for William Earl Fortenberry will be held on February 7, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:45 PM, at Wolf Funeral Services located at 3054 Hwy 80 West, Morton, MS 39117. Following the visitation, a funeral service will commence at 1:00 PM and continue until 2:00 PM, allowing all who knew and loved him to come together to celebrate his remarkable life.
William Earl Fortenberry will be remembered not only for his contributions to his family and community but also for the kindness and warmth he radiated in every moment of his life. May his memory be eternal.
