Andrew Wayne Wicker

May 15, 1940 — April 6, 2023

Andrew Wayne Wicker, “Pops” passed away April 6, 2023 at his childhood home at the age of 82. Wolf Funeral Home in Morton, MS, will handle Wayne’s celebration service on Tuesday, April 11th. There will be a visitation at 10:00am in the Wolf Chapel with a service following at 11:00am.
Andrew Wayne Wicker was the youngest child born to Vera Smith Wicker and Floyd Rush Wicker on May 15, 1940, in Homewood, MS. He was blessed to have an older sister, whom he adored, Helen Wicker McWilliams. Wayne graduated from Forest High School in 1957. He joined the MS National Guard serving his country for 30 years. He served as an examiner for the USPFO until his retirement as Lt. Colonel in 1993. Wayne was very patriotic. He and his friend, Dan Rushing, were honored to place flags at local cemeteries for our Veterans on Veteran’s Day. He also took pride in serving as Chaplin for The American Legion Post #9 in Forest for many years.
After his military retirement, Wayne assisted his good friend, Tony Wolf, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home. In 2008, Mr. Wolf left to start Wolf Funeral Home in Morton, MS, wherein Wayne assisted Tony in that endeavor. Wayne married Peggy Jo Hales in 1964. They were married 24 years and had two daughters, Lisa Chantee’ Wicker Harmon and Memory Lynn Wicker Parrish.
After the dissolution of Wayne and Peggy’s marriage, he later met Rose Ella Denton and the couple married on February 13, 1988. Although they did not have children together, Wayne loved and cared for Rose’s two sons, Bobby Joe Denton and Robert Denton, and their families.
Wayne had a deep faith and love of our Lord. His parents taught and helped form his faith foundation. He shared his love for Jesus with everyone he met. He was a servant for the Lord in several churches during his lifetime, but he and Rose worshiped together at Forest Baptist Church during their marriage.
Wayne is survived by his daughters, Lisa Wicker Harmon (Patrick) of Oxford, MS and Memory Lynn Parrish (Randy) of Counce, TN; step-son Robert Denton of Forest, MS; Niece, Sheila McWilliams Gainey (David) of Forest, MS. Grandchildren: Makena Gobbell (David) and their daughter Swayze; Raines Smith (Chase); Maximilian David Harmon; Morrissey Claire Harmon; Andrew Rush Harmon; Dane Patrick Harmon; Sofia Caroline Harmon; Susannah Keyne Harmon; Brandi Denton Gatewood and Emily Denton Smith (Taylor), along with numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rose Ella Wicker; parents, Vera and Floyd Wicker; sister Helen Wicker McWilliams and nephew, Michael Jay McWilliams and step-son Bobby Joe Denton.
We are grateful for your prayers. Pops had a big smile that matched his big heart. His favorite past time was breakfast at Waffle House. He and Rose enjoyed going out to eat and for all those angels who picked up their tabs: Thank you!
Proverbs 15:13 “A joyful heart makes a cheerful face…”
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Baptist Church’s music ministry or The Gideons International in his memory.
From Wayne’s/Pops’ family: Thank you and God Bless.
