Morton

Thomas Chester Rasberry, age 75, affectionately known as Tommy to those who loved him, passed away peacefully at his home in Forkville, Mississippi, with his family by his side.

Tommy, was truly one of a kind — short in stature, but larger than life. When he walked into a room, you always knew it. His unmistakable raspy voice was often the first sound you’d hear, followed by a joke that would make you laugh and a story that would make you wonder — just how much of that was true? (Those who knew him best would say he only stretched the truth just a tiny bit.)

He was, without question, a “blue ribbon Papaw.” In order to understand this, you must know that anything he ever made or did was up to the “blue ribbon” standard. That title wasn’t just about his famous “Blue Ribbon Fudge” — which may or may not have come from a Carnation Fudge Kit — it was about the way he approached life. Whether it was a small task or a grand gesture, everything Tommy did was up to his “blue ribbon” standard.

Tommy was a devoted animal lover throughout his life. Alongside his beloved wife Glinda, he cared for a menagerie that included horses, chickens, peacocks, ducks, geese, dogs, cats, and even a few fiercely loyal turkeys. In fact, the family still laughs (and flinches) at the memory of being lovingly terrorized by those birds.

He was the kind of man who showed up — for everything and everyone. Need a Santa for the church Christmas program? Tommy was there. Grandparents Day at school? Count him in. Holiday shopping? He was at the mall himself, making sure every gift was just right. His presence was a constant in the lives of those he loved, and he never missed an opportunity to make others feel special.

Tommy also had a deep passion for sports, especially baseball. He curated an impressive baseball card collection over the years and could often be found cheering on his Ole Miss Rebels with enthusiasm.

But above all, Tommy Rasberry loved his family. His joy came from being a husband, stepfather, grandfather, and friend. His stories, jokes, warmth, and unwavering support created memories that will be cherished for generations.

He was also a member of New Liberty Baptist Church

The world was a little brighter — and a whole lot louder — with Tommy in it. He will be deeply missed, but his love, laughter, and “blue ribbon” spirit will live on in all who knew and loved him.

Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Ray and Mary Lou Rasberry and his brother, Dennis Rasberry. He is survived by his wife, Glinda Rasberry of Morton, MS; his two step-sons, Jeffrey Champion of Morton, MS and Joey Champion (Dedra) of Mortons, MS; his sister, Patricia Waldrop (David) of Aberdeen, MS; his Brother, Ronnie Rasberry (Sherry) of Flora, MS; his four grandchildren, Candice Stewart, Adam Champion, Ashlyn Gatlin and Brittany Champion; his three great-grandchildren, Brady Stewart, Ava Champion and Jada Champion and a host of nieces and nephews.

A private graveside services will be held at a later date.
