James Sones

December 2, 1933 — January 22, 2012

James Velo Sones, 78, a resident of Forest, MS passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012 at the University Medical Center, Jackson, MS. Visitation was held at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 5:30 until 8:00 pm and again on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 from 9:00 until 9:45 am. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 25, 2012 in the chapel at 10:00 am with burial following in the Eastern Cemetery, Forest, MS with full military honors. The accompanist was Linda Nichols and soloists were Kathy Lee and Robert Beaver. Officiating was Rev. Don Wilson and Rev. Bobby McKay. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. James had lived most of his life in Forest, MS and he was a member of Harperville Baptist Church in Harperville, MS. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Japan and the Army National Guard and received numerous medals and honors, those being, ARCAM (Army Forces Reserve Component Achievement Medal), AFRM (Army Forces Reserve Medal), MESM (Mississippi Emergency Service Medal), MLM (Mississippi Longevity Medal) and a MS Recruiter Badge.
He was a former member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved mowing grass, riding his tractor and being with his dog “Beau” and fishing and relaxing in his recliner.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joe Bart Sones in 1977; his parents, Fred and Aubrey Sones; one sister, Aubrey Nell Stewart.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Sones of Forest, MS; three daughters, Sondra Sones of Forest, MS; Judy Smith and husband Robert of Morton, MS; Darhlene Jones and husband David N. of Forest, MS; one brother, Vander Sones of Forest, MS; four grandchildren, David N. Jones, II, Robert Allen Smith, II, Michael Brandon Jones, and Jessica May Daniels and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Travis McCoy, Sam Sones, Paul Smith, Larry Brantley, Donnie McDaniel and Dr. J.P. Lee. Honorary pallbearers were the men’s Sunday School Class at Harperville Baptist Church, those being Mike Gaddis, John Burnham, Johnnie Brittian, Parkes Marler, Charlie Montgomery, Carl Roland, Paul Smith, David Lee, Phillip Young, Charles Rawson, Delton Crout, John Wood and Shannon Townsend; Lamar Rodgers, Thomas V. Beaver, Rickey Beaver, Randy Beaver, Renee Beaver, and Kell Bishop.
