Sara Christine Brown Coward, age 89, a beloved member of the Contrell Community, departed from this world on June 2, 2025, at Carthage Senior Care in Carthage, Mississippi. Born on April 10, 1936, in Scott County, Mississippi, she was an enduring spirit whose presence enriched the lives of those around her.
Sara lived most of her life surrounded by the natural beauty of the Contrell Community in Scott County. Known for her love of the outdoors, she reveled in fishing and cherished moments spent with family. An avid Dominoes player, her home was often filled with laughter and friendly competition. Sara's faith was a significant aspect of her life, and she was a devoted member of Thomastown Baptist Church in Thomastown, MS.
Sara dedicated herself professionally as a clerk with the Scott County Justice Court, where her diligence and commitment were well-regarded. Her legacy is one of warmth, kindness, and a zest for life that resonated deeply with all fortunate enough to know her.
Sara is survived by her loving son, Tony Coward (Sharon) of Canton, MS, and her cherished daughter, Sundra Cessna (Gene) of Thomastown, MS. She will be dearly missed by her five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces and nephews who lovingly remember her guiding spirit.
Sara is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne E. Coward; her parents, Grady and Augusta Brown; her two brothers, Charles and Carvis "Boomer" Brown; and her half-sister, Jeweldine. The absence of these loved ones in her life cast long shadows that she bore with grace.
Services in honor of Sara will begin with a visitation on June 5, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Contrell Cemetery, located at 15148 Hwy 13N, Lena, MS 39094. A graveside service will follow on June 5, 2025, from 2:30 PM at the same location.
Sara Christine Brown Coward's legacy will forever remain alive in the hearts of her family and friends, her unwavering kindness and joy resonating through the stories and memories they share. She leaves behind a world touched by her spirit and an enduring love that will never fade.
