Wendy Lynn Cooksey Culpepper, 53, of Lake, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on August 8, 1972, in Forest, Mississippi, to Jimmy and Dianne Cooksey. Wendy graduated from East Central Community College with a nursing degree and proudly served as a registered nurse for 25 years, working in multiple departments throughout her distinguished career. Nursing was more than a profession to Wendy—it was her calling. She loved every part of it, from the fast pace and urgency of the most intense calls to the quiet teaching moments she shared with fellow nurses and those just beginning their careers.
Wendy was known for her sweet spirit, selfless heart, and unwavering devotion to her family—including the cherished four-legged members of it as well. She found joy in the simple, meaningful moments of life: morning walks with her husband, precious time spent with her grandchildren, and tending to her garden, a love she inherited from her father. Her home and heart were always open to those she loved, and she touched countless lives through both her compassion as a nurse and her love as a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Lavelle Lee Culpepper III; her children, Jessie Barrett, Justin Barrett, Levi Culpepper, Madison Culpepper, and Kurt Culpepper; her nine beloved grandchildren; her mother, Dianne Cooksey; and her siblings, Wayne Cooksey, Wally Cooksey, Wanda Dean, Wade Cooksey, Wynette Cole, Wilma Royal, Wynona Basinger, and Wileen Gray.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 3, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
The family asks that everyone honor Wendy’s memory by sharing stories of how she impacted your life, whether in person or on social media, and by showing love, kindness, and help to others, just as she so faithfully did throughout her life.
Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
