Mrs. Mary A. Sistrunk

Dec 19, 1952 — Aug 24, 2026

Mrs. Mary Alice Sistrunk, born December 19, 1952, in Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at her residence in Forest, Mississippi, on Monday, August 24, 2026. She was 73.

Mary’s early years began in Little Rock, but she would call Mississippi home for much of her life. Raised in a loving family, she was the devoted daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Newsome. Her path led her to Pelahatchie, Mississippi, where she spent her formative years before settling in Forest, Mississippi, a community she cherished for the past forty years.

Her life was marked by enduring faith, steadfast devotion to family, and a presence that uplifted everyone fortunate enough to know her. Mary Alice was a cherished member of Hillsboro Baptist Church, where she attended services and found fellowship among dear friends and neighbors.

Above all else, she delighted in the simple joys of life, finding her greatest happiness surrounded by children and grandchildren. She loved nothing more than spending time and playing with them, her laughter filling the air and her heart full of gratitude for every moment together. Equally, she enjoyed quiet afternoons sitting on her porch, relishing the company of friends and the peace of a Mississippi evening. Among her favorite pastimes was playing her cherished Wizard of OZ game, a source of comfort and delight that brought joy to many gatherings.

Mary’s generous spirit, warmth, and resilience leave a legacy that endures in both family and community. She is survived by her dear best friend and caretaker, Ramona Sessums. Friends, Victoria Hamilton and Earl Steele; her brothers, Kevin Sistrunk and Jimmy Lee Newsome; her sister, Irene Coley; and Bobby Newsome, whose close bond enriched her later years.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Sistrunk; her sister, Shirley George; and her parents, William and Elizabeth Newsome.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Mary. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, Mississippi.
