Katie Stewart McCann, age 88, born March 15, 1938, in Newton County, passed away at the Beehive of Marion on May 10, 2026.
She was a lifelong resident of Scott County before moving to Newton County. She worked at Newton Company until she retired. She was also the best seamstress in the County; she sewed and altered clothing for many people. She loved cooking and fishing and could make the best dressing and dumplings you have ever eaten.
She is survived by her children, Nancy (Robert) Roncali, of Newton, Kay Watkins of Forest, and Wayne (Illene) Stewart of Arkansas. Her step children Sidney Poole, Teresa Myatt, Bobby Joe Poole, and Tammie Thorne. Katie had seven grandchildren: Justin Stroud, Lee Watkins, Erin (Garrett) Lang, Savannah (Cody) Kelley, Dakota (Hannah) Roncali, Devyn (Jon) Drew, and Robert W. Roncali. She also had 6 great-grandchildren: Jase Drew, Jamison Kelly, Lily Roncali, Taylor Lang, Frank Roncali, and Hayes Lang. She had numerous stepchildren, step great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, the late Rev. Johnny Hitt and Ludie Gibbs Hitt, her husband Hubert Stewart, L.D. McCann and her son, Hubert Scott Stewart.
Her legacy of love will forever remain in our hearts.
Visitation for Mrs. Katie will be held on May 12, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and on May 13, 2026, from 10:00 am to 10:45 am. Service will follow at 11:00 am, and all services will be at the Wolf Funeral Services in Lake, MS. Interment will be held at Goodhope Missionary Baptist Cemetery in Lake, Mississippi.
