Mr. Wilburn M. Brown, born on February 13, 1928, in Smith County, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his residence in Pulaski, Mississippi, on July 5, 2026, at the age of 98.

Wilburn lived a long and remarkable life rooted in the values of family, community, and kindness. He resided in Smith County for the past 25 years, formerly of Mobile, Alabama. Wilburn was a member of the Gasque Chapel Methodist Church in Pulaski, MS. Mr. Brown served his country in the U.S. Army after WWII. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, farm, and garden. He was shaped by the land and the loving guidance of his parents, Nola and R.D. Brown. Throughout his life, Wilburn embodied the spirit of responsibility and devotion, always putting the needs of others before his own.

He shared many cherished years with his beloved wife, Lela Marie Brown, whose memory he carried with him after her passing. Together, they built a family grounded in love, resilience, and mutual respect. Wilburn’s legacy now lives on through his surviving daughters: Nola Elizabeth "Becky" (Monty) Hopkins and Mona Rebecca "Beth" Carter, each of whom he guided with patience, wisdom, and a steadfast dedication.

In addition to his daughters, Wilburn is survived by his brother, Dwight (Barbara) Brown. He was a treasured presence in the lives of many others: His grandchildren, Heather Marie (Kevin) Jones, Cassie Dean (Micah) Weems, Stephen Kyle Hopkins, Jennifer Nicole Carter, Austin Todd Carter, Samantha Louise (Justin) Roper, and Earl M. Brown. Wilburn's great-grandchildren are Cody A. Jones, Danielle Jones, Caitlyn Jones, Courtney Jones, Nathan Williams, Addyson Williams, J.D. Roper, John Thomas Roper, Brooklyn Hopkins, Jersey Hopkins, Colton Brown, and Peyton Brown. Numerous nieces and nephews also held a special place in his heart.

Wilburn was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lela Marie Brown; his parents, R.D. and Nola Brown; his son, Robert "Bobby" Brown; his in-laws, Floyd and Harvey Burns; his brothers Earl "Honey" and J.B. Brown; and his sisters Bennie Mae Bryant and Nancy Brown. Their memories were ever-present in his life, and he spoke of them often with affection and gratitude.

His years were marked by gentle strength, quiet dignity, and an unwavering sense of duty. Wilburn found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether tending to his home, nurturing relationships with those around him, or offering a helping hand to friends and neighbors. His influence extended well beyond his immediate family, touching the lives of all who had the privilege to know him.

Family and friends will gather to honor Mr. Wilburn M. Brown’s life during visitation at Wolf Funeral Services Chapel in Morton, MS, on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and again on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Funeral services will follow at Wolf Funeral Services Chapel on Friday, July 10 at 1:00 p.m., with interment taking place at Providence Lutheran Cemetery.

Wilburn M. Brown’s spirit will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of generosity, integrity, and enduring love stands as a beacon for generations to come.
