Maxine Smith, a cherished lifelong resident of the Branch Community, passed away on May 22, 2026, at the MS Care Center in Morton, surrounded by her family. Born on January 30, 1949, in Scott County, Mississippi, Maxine lived a life marked by dedication to her family, community, and faith.

Maxine was a devoted member of Leesburg Baptist Church in Morton, MS, where she actively participated in church life, serving on the Grace Sunday School Class. Her commitment to serving others extended beyond her spiritual community into her professional career. For 20 years, Maxine worked compassionately as a social worker at Scott Regional Hospital in Morton, MS, retiring in 2014. Her work brought comfort and support to countless individuals, reflecting her generous spirit and unwavering kindness.

Her greatest joys were found in the company of her loved ones. Maxine delighted in family gatherings, sharing precious moments with her children and grandchildren. She also embraced the joy of rodeoing with the kids and enjoyed outings to local eateries, cherishing these opportunities to create lasting memories.

Maxine is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Tambra (Michael) Worrell and Tanya Smith (Ricky Bobo); her sister, Shelia (Joe) Rigby; her brother, Nicky (Alison) Crapps; and her grandchildren, Dusty (Kendall) Smith and Candace (Michael) Carter. Her legacy of love extends to her great-grandchildren, Canden, Caysen, Kinsley, and Kennedy Smith, who brought immense joy to her later years. Special cousins Dianne Crapps Brunt and Brenda Thrash, along with her precious friend Dorothy Faye Thompson and numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives, also hold her dearly in their hearts.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Ruby Jewel Gibbons Crapps; her grandparents, Raz B. Gibbons and Nell Bates Gibbons, and Mack Crapps Sr. and Pearl Thompson Crapps; her sisters, Maxie Jewel Crapps and Linda Faye Nichols; and her former husband, Eddie Marshall Smith.

Visitation to honor and remember Maxine will be held on May 26, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. at Wolf Funeral Services – Morton, located at 3054 Hwy 80 West, Morton, MS 39117. The funeral service will follow the same day at 6:00 p.m. at the Wolf Funeral Services Chapel. Interment will be at the Leesburg Baptist Cemetery in Morton, Mississippi, but there will be no graveside service. Officiating the service will be Bro. Paul Smith, pallbearers are Dusty Smith, Jimmie Nichols Jr., Joe Rigby, Tyler Rigby, Logan Parisi, and Michael Carter. Honorary bearers are Canden Smith, Caysen Smith, Rory Garcia, Dump Davis, Jim Measels, Ricky Holmes, Josh Holmes, Mack Crapps, Mike Richards, and Danny Ward.

Maxine Smith’s life was a testament to compassion, faith, and the enduring bonds of family. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warmth, strength, and loving nature leave a lasting imprint on the community she so dearly loved.
