Mattie H. Garrett, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her community, peacefully passed away on July 15, 2025, in Pelahatchie, Mississippi, at the age of 87. Born on January 11, 1938, in Rankin County, Mississippi, she dedicated over sixty years of her life to the town of Pelahatchie, where she left an indelible mark on those who knew her.

Mattie was deeply rooted in her faith and a devoted member of Holy Bush Church in Pelahatchie, Mississippi. Her commitment to her beliefs was reflected in her kind and generous spirit, which touched the lives of many. She was known for her loving nature, especially towards her family, which created a strong bond with her grandchildren and allowed her to enjoy countless moments shared with them. Her interests included reading, tending to her flowers, completing puzzles, cooking, attending concerts, and, most importantly, spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Steve Garrett, and his wife, Leann; her siblings, Frankie Huff, Carol Traxler, and Jimmy Huffman; her four grandchildren, Ryan Garrett (Amanda), Bo Garrett (Jenna), Ty Garrett, and Whitney Wyatt (William); as well as her seven great-grandchildren, Hannah Garrett, Madelynn Garrett, Zack Garrett, Graham Garrett, Rory Garrett, Wyatt Greer, and Laney Wyatt. Additionally, Mattie leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will remember her with love and affection.

Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, F.J. "Sonny" Garrett; her parents, Clyde Elbert and Zora Mae Gray Huffman; and her siblings, Jeanette Bates, Velma Chastain Knight, Rita Banes, Dot Gray, Cammie Falvey, Tommie Huffman, and Clyde Huffman, Jr.

Her visitation will be held on July 18, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM, both at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, Mississippi.

Mattie H. Garrett will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the entire community that she so lovingly served. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
