George Marler Sr

Mr. George Vaughn Marler,Sr., age 77 a resident of Morton, MS passed away on Wednesday January 28, 2015 at his home. Visitation will be held on Friday January 30, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Saturday January 31, 2015 from 8:00 Am until 9:50 AM at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday January 31, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Wolf Funeral Services. Burial will follow in the Morton Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Rev. Gary Glazier and Rev. Earl Clark. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Marler had resided in Morton, MS since 1972, having lived in various other locations due to his employment with the Federal Government. He was a member of the Morton United Methodist Church in Morton, MS. Mr. Marler was a 1955 graduate of Morton High School and 1961 graduate of Mississippi State University with a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering. After graduating he served many years as a Civil Engineer with the U.S. Government until his retirement in 1972. He was an avid golfer and quail hunter. As a devoted Missisippi State Bulldog Fan, Mr. Marler also served as a Charter Member and Director of the Mississippi State Bulldog Club. Mr. Marler was currently serving on the Mississippi State Board of Contractors and enjoyed traveling to the conventions each year. He was a loving father and grandfather whose greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He loved making others happy and seeing them smile as he entertained them with his colorful jokes and stories. Mr. Marler will always be remembered for his kindness and his gifts of homemade “trash”, jerky and fudge to his friends. Mr. Marler always carried a bag of candy with him to give to friends and strangers alike, which earned him the nickname “The Candyman”, endearing him to the children at the Morton United Methodist Church.
Mr. Marler was married to his high school sweetheart, Geraldine Lowery Marler for 43 years. She preceded him in death in 2001. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Pearl Marler; one brother, Oscar Marler. He is survived by three sons, George Marler, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Morton, MS., John Marler and wife Amy of Brandon, MS., Jim Marler and wife Tara of Morton, MS.; one brother, A.W. Marler, Jr. and wife Clyde of Morton, MS.; three grandchildren, Laura Wilder, Lauren Marler, Laine Marler; one nephew, Robert Marler; one niece Terri Steadman.
Pallbearers are Joe Allen Brown, Robert Marler, Hez Hollingsworth, Hal Risher, Jr., Jim Eichelberger, Randy Gibson. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmie Dale Eichelberger, Sr., A.B. Farris, Jack Hollingsworth, Joe Brown, James Shephard, Jim Ott, Liles Williams, Melvin Roland, Raymond Cox, Dink Gibson, Harold Dennis, Stanley Welch, Jerry Turner, Billy Frank Alford, William Dobbs, Johnny Johnson, Jim Wiley Armstrong, Buddy Lovett, Kendall Pigg.
