Marjorie Imogene Lathem Brown was born January 8, 1928, near Sebastopol in Leake County on her fathers farm. She was the first of eight children born to the late Reverend J.Q. Lathem and Lois Ophelia Ware Lathem. Her visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 10:30 AM until 11:15 AM at our funeral home in Morton, MS. Her funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM in our funeral home chapel. Her burial will follow at Fuston Cemetery in Walnut Grove. Rev. Greg Lathem and Rev. Ray Lathem will officiate under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services.

At an early age, she was beside her mother in the kitchen who passed on a love for cooking and immaculate standards in housekeeping. Her favorite past-time included making the most delicious meals and cooking sweets for her family and anyone who happened to drop by. She was in the class of 1946 at Sebastopol High School. While in high school during World War II, she met and began corresponding with a neighborhood boy, W.J. Brown, who was with the 96th Infantry on Leyte and Okinawa. Shortly after the end of the war and his homecoming, they were married in March 1946. This union continued for 32 years until W. J's sudden death in August 1978.

She was a wondrous lady, always a kind, loving, and down-home and gentle being. Her love for her family and friends and her faith moved her to never meet a stranger and to share her love and her story with everyone one she met. She was truly a treasure and her Christian faith allowed her heart to be open to all she encountered. Her presence will be greatly missed and is survived by her brother Ray Lathem of Cullman, Alabama, her son, Joe and his wife Annette of Harperville, and grandchildren, Joseph Jay Brown, Linwood, Amy Moak, McComb, Aaron Lewis Brown, Harperville, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Fuston Cemetery in Walnut Grove.
