Linda Faye Crapps Nichols, a cherished soul and beloved member of the Morton community, passed away on May 27, 2025, at Ochsner Scott Regional Hospital in Morton, Mississippi. Born on January 12, 1947, in Scott County, Mississippi, Linda lived a life that was beautifully intertwined with the people she loved, her community, and her passions.
Linda's education was a journey filled with memories that shaped her character. She attended Branch School and went on to graduate from Morton High School in 1964. While at East Central Junior College, where she participated as a majorette with the band, she honed her keen sense of rhythm and music—skills she would carry throughout her life.
For decades, Linda served as the pianist for First Baptist Church in Morton and Harperville Baptist Church, sharing her musical gifts and deep faith with her fellow worshippers. This role was more than just a commitment; it was a reflection of her dedication to community and family, which were at the heart of everything she did.
In her professional life, Linda worked for several years at Ransco Propane in Pelahatchie, where colleagues and friends alike admired her strong work ethic and kind spirit. She was not just a worker but a friend and inspiration to those around her.
Linda had a zest for life that was evident in her interests and hobbies. She loved spending time with her family, creating meals that brought everyone together, arranging beautiful floral displays, and dedicating her time to rescuing animals. Her home was a haven filled with laughter, love, and an occasional furry friend in need of care.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Jimmie D. Nichols, Sr., and their loving children: Nicole Lee and her husband Mike of Forest, MS, and Jimmie D. Nichols, Jr. (Teresa) of Morton, MS. She held a special place in her heart for her “special daughter,” Tracy Nichols, as well as her siblings Maxine Smith, Shelia Rigby (Joe), and Nicky Crapps (Alison) of Morton, MS. Linda was also blessed with a self-proclaimed sister, Maxine Rogers, whose bonding with Linda enriched her life further. Additionally, her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Allyson Nichols, Anna Claire Mills, Trey Nichols, Marygrace Lee, and great-grandchildren Holden Mills, Baker Mills, and Allynn Caroline Mills and a host of nieces and nephews.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Ruby Jewel Gibbons Crapps, and her beloved sister, Maxie Jewel Crapps. She is also reunited with her cherished grandson, Michael Wilcox Lee, II, and her grandparents Raz B. Gibbons and Nell Bates Gibbons, as well as Mack Crapps, Sr. and Pearl Thompson Crapps.
A visitation will be held on May 29, 2025, from 2 PM to 3:45 PM, followed by a funeral service at 4 PM at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS. Through these gatherings, family and friends will come together to celebrate a life filled with love, creativity, and countless memories that shall forever resonate in their hearts. Bro. Paul Smith, Bro. Bobby McKay and Bro. Gary Morris will officiate under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services.
Linda Faye Crapps Nichols will be remembered not just for her talents and the love she shared, but for the indelible impact she made on the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit will live on in every note of music played, every flower arranged, and every moment shared with her cherished family and friends.
