Linda Darrell Gardner, a cherished resident of the Piketon Community, passed away on June 28, 2025, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, at the age of 81. Born on September 21, 1943, in Scott County, Mississippi, Darrell dedicated her life to her family, her faith, and her community.

In her role as a grandmother, she had the pleasure of watching her four grandchildren—Jacob Hamm (Kathyleen), Jack Hamm, Cole Barnes, and D.J. Monk (Brooke)—grow and thrive. She also delighted in the joy her two great-grandchildren, Annie Kaye Monk and Hannah Grace Monk, brought into her life.

Her love extended to her siblings, including her sister Ruby Fortenberry of Forest, MS, and her brothers Matthew Shelley (Marsha) of Forest, MS, and Jimmy Shelley (Betty) of Conehatta, MS. She leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly for her warmth and caring spirit.

Darrell was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. R. B. Gardner, who played a significant role in her life, as well as her parents, Jack and Katie Maude Shelley. She was also preceded by her sister, Saralan Brown, who shared her life’s journey.

Darrell enjoyed various activities, including cooking, sewing, and gardening. Her culinary skills were renowned among family and friends, often bringing them together around the dinner table. Her passion for creating beauty in her garden and her crafts was evident in everything she did.
