Min. L D Mays was born April 18, 1945 in Forest, MS in Scott County to the late Fred and Idelle Mays.  He departed this life on July12, 2023, at 12:30 am at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS.  Visitation will be held on Friday, July 21, 2021, from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS and again on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM at Greater Holy Hill COGIC in Morton, MS with his Funeral Service starting at 2:00.  Interment will be at Green Grove United Methodist Cemetery in Lake, MS.  Pastor Nathaniel Henson, Sr. will officiate under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services.

Min. L D Mays is preceded in death by eight brothers, John Mays, J. T Mays, Bobbie Lee Mays, John D. Mays, Murphy Mays, Eld. Marzell Mays, Billy Ray Mays, and his twin brother Eddie D. Mays; one grandchild, Aquarion Craft also preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and faithful wife of 40years, Louise Amos Mays of Morton, MS; two daughters, Debra Ann Mays of Morton, MS and Crystal DeeAnn Mays Keys (Michael) of Morton, MS; three sons, Reginald Laster, Timothy Laster and Nicholas Mays all of Morton, MS; two foster children, Rayneshia Spivey and Marquis Johnson of Augusta, GA.  He has twelve grandchildren, Sharde Mays, Zaylen Gipson, Keyara and Elijah Culpepper, Antwon and Amarrion Laster, Reginald (Laquaja) Harper and Rico Don Laster, Jeremiah, Jonathan Jr, Joshua Lloyd and JaMichael Keys; 10 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; two sisters Mae Ruth Sims of Pittsburg, CA and Loretta (MJ) Reese of Morton, MS.  He leaves a host of nieces and nephews and a special set of friends, Mr. David and Lynn Yates of Morton, MS.

Min. L D Mays attended school at Bettye Mae Jack school in Morton, MS.  Later on in life he moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana; where he worked as a Poultry Meat Cutter and he worked at International Harvester. In 1983 he moved back to Mississippi and on April 7, 1983, he united in Holy Matrimony with Louise Amos and to this union 2 children were born and two boys and one girl were added also. Min. L D Mays accepted Christ in his life and along with his wife they joined the Holy Hill Church of God In Christ under the leadership of the late Eld. Booker T. Wells and later on, Eld. Johnnie Coleman.  Min. L D Mays was ordained as a Minister in the Church of God In Christ under Eld. Johnnie Coleman’s leadership.  In 2003 he joined his wife and family at St. Luke Church of God In Christ under the leadership of the late Eld. Booker T. Wells and presently under the leadership of Pastor Nathaniel Henson Sr. where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Associate Minister.  He was faithful until his health began to fail.  He often spoke of how the Lord made a difference in his life.
