Kathy was born on January 28, 1960, in Newton County, MS, to Eugene and Elaine Thrash. She After high school, Kathy attended Mississippi State University and pursued her dream of becoming a teacher. Affectionately known as “Ms. Farmer” for 30 years, she inspired hundreds of students who passed through her classroom door at Lake High School.
Passionate about teaching history, Ms. Farmer imparted much more than just historical facts—she taught valuable life lessons. Her favorite quote for her students was, “There is no such thing as a free lunch!” A true educator, an inspiration, and a motivational force, she left an indelible impact on many of her dedicated students. Words like “amazing teacher,” “great influence,” and “life-changing” are just a few of the kind words written about her in recent days. I wonder if she realized the extent of the difference she made in the lives of so many, especially those fortunate enough to have her as a teacher.
Kathy found immense joy in the simplest pleasures of life. Her vibrant personality was infectious; she had the ability to find happiness in her everyday life. After retiring from teaching, she devoted much of her time to her farm, enjoying the outdoors, assisting at the “flower shop,” and doting on her beloved dogs.
She is preceded in death by her father, Eugene “Bigon” Thrash. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Michael Lee Farmer of Conehatta, MS; her mother, Elaine Thrash Page of House, MS; her sister, Lorraine Thrash Buntyn (James) of Union, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews, both blood and adopted family.
Pallbearers will be Danny Edmonds, Jon Tally, Ken Everett, Clay Thrash, Ron Ladner, Trey Ladner, and Sherman Stephens.
