Mrs. Julia Merlene Street, 86, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023, at the Lackey Convalescent Home in Forest, MS. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Thursday, July 20, 2023, from 9:00 AM until 9:50 AM with her Funeral Service to follow at 10:00 AM, all at Wolf Funeral Services in Lake, MS. Bro. Ken McLemore, Bro. Jess Dilley and Bro. James McMillan will officiate the services under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services.
Merlene was born on October 5, 1936, in Scott County MS to the late Emmitt and Clinnie McMillan. She was a lifelong resident of Lake, MS where she was a member of First Baptist Church. Merlene was a 1955 graduate of Goodhope High School. She began her career at the Newton Company, then to Sunbeam until it’s closing and retired at Raytheon. Merlene loved to shop and she loved her family and gardening.
In addition to her parents, Merlene is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Street; sisters, Helen McCurdy, Mary Knowles and Ramona McWilliams and brothers, Leon, Samuel and Kenneth McMillan. She is survived by her daughter, Gigi Black (Marty) of Pulaski, MS; son, Rodney Street (Shelia) of Lake, MS; sisters, Kathleen Giles (Bowman) of Forest, MS, Rhoda Young of Purvis, MS and Irma Sessions of Forest, MS; brother, James McMillan (Delilah) of Forest, MS; 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Serving as pallbearers are Michael Sessions, Scotty McMillan, John McMillan, John McCurdy, Kent Young and Dale McWilliams. Honorary pallbearers are Brent Young, Kenny Wayne McMillan and Bowman Giles.
