JAMES MARION McINTOSH SR.
October 9, 1937 - April 24, 2026
James Marion McIntosh Sr. of Pineville, MS was born on October 9, 1937 to Lee Rush McIntosh Sr. and Etta Lee Elizabeth Cooper McIntosh in the home of his Uncle Hulon Windham and Aunt Ruby McIntosh Windham at Mize, MS. He was a retired medical technologist, cattle and poultry farmer and a member of Leaf River Baptist Church at Pineville, MS. James passed away at the age of 88 on April 24, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Ethylene Wiggins McIntosh; parents, Lee Rush McIntosh Sr. and Etta Lee Elizabeth Cooper McIntosh; and brother, Lee Rush McIntosh Jr.
He is survived by his children, Jim McIntosh (Miriam) of Recovery, GA and Shawn Roland of Franklin, TN; four grandchildren, Mary Nehring (Freddy) of Park Hills, KY, Josh McIntosh (Liz) of Bel Air, MD, Reed Roland of Franklin, TN, and Ryan Roland of Nashville, TN; and five great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Hudson, and Rowan McIntosh and Emma and Jack Nehring. James also leaves behind many other family members and friends.
His first home was in the Eastman-Gardiner logging camp at Burns, MS, where his father worked, and his grandfather, Marion McIntosh, was the camp’s blacksmith. During World War II, his father and an uncle had a construction contract with the War Department, and the family moved several times. When the war ended, his father moved the family to Laurel, MS.
attended Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, MS, where he met his future wife, Ethylene Wiggins. They were married on March 13, 1956. He and she received their A.S. and A.A. degrees, respectively, from JCJC in 1957.
At the Mississippi Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS, James completed his clinical training in 1958 to become a medical technologist. He was first employed at the Leland City Hospital in Leland, MS, as a lab technician, medical technologist, and x-ray technician. While living in Leland, James and Ethylene became members of Lakeview Baptist Church, and later, he was ordained as a deacon.
In high school, James enlisted in the U. S. Navy Reserve. He was assigned to the USS Saipan (CVL-48), a light aircraft carrier. James was honorably discharged from the Navy in the 1960s.

In 1972, he moved his family into the house they built themselves at Pineville, MS, and they became members of the Leaf River Baptist Church. His job as a medical technologist was at the Smith County General Hospital in Raleigh, MS, where he also served a brief time as interim administrator. He retired in 1978 to become a full-time poultry and cattle farmer.
He served as treasurer and president of the Leaf River Baptist Church Cemetery. In 1993, James was part of the group of men that organized the Pineville Volunteer Fire Department, and that group served as the first firefighters.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycles.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
