Billy Joe Haralson June 11, 1934 – December 21, 2016
Billy Joe Haralson, 82, passed from this life into his heavenly home at his home on December 21, 2016 after an extended illness. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Ephesus Baptist Church, Forest, MS. A memorial service and graveside service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, MS is in charge of arrangements.
Billy Joe worked hard all of his life to provide for his family. Many of his early working years were spent at the Sebastopol Co-Op, driving an 18-wheeler for Baddour Company, and at Lott Furniture Company. He went into business for himself as ‘Haralson Appliance Service’ working for years selling, installing and repairing central units and appliances until his retirement years. Even during retirement he continued to assist with maintenance and repair work at Ephesus Baptist Church where he was a member and served as deacon for forty plus years.
Known as ‘Popsie’ to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he loved to watch all of the kids grow and especially loved the hugs he got at each visit. He enjoyed the outside and having a garden each year. Each year the rows got longer and greater in number. He always wanted the family to have plenty of fresh vegetables. He was a man of few words. He always said ‘she won’t let me get a word in edgewise’! His dry sense of humor was the highlight of conversations with him. Although his failing health through the last few years had him home bound, he never complained although it was difficult for him to not be busy.
Billy Joe is preceded in death by his Father, J. C. Haralson, Mother, Mary Lou Haralson, brothers Robert and James Gray Haralson, his sister Darlene Goss, Father-in-law Jack Hartman, Mother-in-law Opal Hartman, brother-in-law Troy Hartman, sister-in-law Jane Hartman, brother-in-law Gene Turner and daughter-in-law Brenda Haralson. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Willie Jean Haralson (his high school sweetheart), son Kendall Haralson, Forest, MS; daughter Cindy Greer (Allen – his favorite son-in-law), Crystal Springs MS; three grandchildren – Jennifer Money (Randy), Jessica Jones and Lloyd Haralson (Samantha) and ten great-grandchildren – Lyndi, Savannah and Keylee Money, Korey, Layla and Jaxon Jones, Bailey and Brandon Prestige, Cadance and Alex Haralson, all of Forest, MS, his sister Nancy Myers, Forest, MS, sisters-in-law Dot Turner of Newton, MS and Joyce Partridge (Joe) of Jackson, MS. He dearly loved the host of nieces and nephews that survive him. His best friend and companion, BoBo, will miss him dearly.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or the National Diabetes Association.
