Steven Hackler, 17, a resident of Morton passed away Friday, June 10, 2011 at Roosevelt State Park. Visitation was held at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton on Thursday, June 16, 2011 from 5:00 until 8:30 pm and on Friday, June 17, 2011 from 8:00 until 9:15 am. Funeral services were at Springfield Baptist Church on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 10:00 am with graveside services at 2:00 pm at Bethesda Presbyterian Cemetery in Edwards, MS. Officiating was Rev. Scott Mangum and Rev. Marty Wilson. Wolf Funeral Services in Morton was in charge of arrangements.
Steven had lived in Morton for past 5 years, moving from Edwards, MS were he attended Hinds Independence Methodist Church in Raymond, MS before attending Springfield Baptist Church in Morton, MS. He was very active in his church and loved hunting, fishing, drag racing and playing baseball on the Morton High School Baseball Team. He received the Herring Citizenship Award in the 8th grade for his outstanding behavior and his helping of others. He was especially helpful in taking care of his grandfather and great-grandfather. Steven was very conscious of his grades in school and worked very hard to achieve his goals. Steven was always looking out for his older brothers and sisters and all his family and Steven got his baseball start in T-Ball under Coach Todd Montgomery.
He is survived by his parents, Randy and Caryl Hackler of Morton, MS; maternal grandparents, Linda and Roy Drew of Crystal Springs, MS; paternal grandparents, Ed and Faye Hackler of Crystal Springs, MS; three brothers, Branden Hackler of Morton, MS; T. J. Nicholson of Morton, MS; Alex Hackler of Morton, MS; two sisters, Tiffany Hackler McCombs of Morton, MS; Summer Hackler of Morton, MS and a number of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.
Pallbearers were T.J. Hackler, Ben Fedrick, Race Taylor, Will Johnson, Coach Miles Porter, and James Howell. Honorary pallbearer was Coach David Brown.
