Ellie Hunter, 69 of Morton, MS passed away on July 13th, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. 

She was born to the late Joe and Wena Cumbie of McClain, Mississippi on June 6th, 1954.  Ellie was one of nine children born to the Cumbie family.

She married Danny Hunter on September 3rd, 1985 and the two of them shared 38 years of marriage.   Ellie is survived by her husband Danny, her daughter Carrie Webb (Bob) of Auburn, Alabama and her two stepdaughters Stephanie Rushing of Morton, MS and Jennifer Adair of Pearl, MS.   Ellie is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren including Warren Webb of Auburn, AL; Kaycee Reed and Taylor Odom of Saraland, Alabama; McKaila and Bethany Rushing of Morton, MS; Genesis Reed of Morton, MS, and Travis Adair of Pearl, MS.  In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her siblings, Pauline Williams (Tony) of Neely, MS, Maxine Blackwell (Tim) of Waynesboro, MS; Sharon Lott (Elton) of McLain, MS; Travis Cumbie (Jill) of Neely, MS and brother-in-law Joey Hunter of Morton, MS.  She was preceded in death by her brother Aljoe Cumbie of McLain, MS and her sisters Eulena Hobby of McLain, MS; Diane Blackledge of Laurel, MS, and Juanita Cumbie of McLain, MS. 

Ellie worked for International Paper Company for 20+ years in various positions but eventually working her way up to the Safety Coordinator and Human Resources Director.  During her tenure at International Paper, she was well loved and respected by all that knew her.  She was affectionately known to them all as “Miss Ellie”.   Following the closure of International Paper she worked for several years at the M-Tek in Canton, MS, Unipress in Forest, MS and eventually moved to the Nissan plant in Canton, MS while working for Onin Staffing as their onsite human resources representative.

Ellie was immensely proud of her family and loved them all dearly.  She leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories of a life shared with her husband, daughters, grandkids, and her beloved “sister trips” with her family.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 10:00 AM until the Memorial Service that will begin at 11:00 AM at Wolf Funeral Home in Morton, MS.   In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in honor of Ellie to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://www.alz.org/?form=alz_donate to help fund research in the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease.
