Jean accepted Christ at an early age and joined Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church, where she remained faithful until her health failed. Jean received her education from Morton High School in 1971. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, going to church, and watching sports.

On Monday morning, March 4, 2024, God dispatched an angel to come and take his servant from labor to reward. Leaving to treasure her external memories are her children Veleka Slocum of McKinney, Texas and Julian “Buck” Slocum, Sr. (Chrissy) of Temple, Texas; a very special grandson that she raised as her son, Jymier Slocum of Morton, Mississippi. Four sisters, Katherine Hollis and Lucy Chandler (James) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Minnie Boyd and Nell McGee (Jack) of Morton, Mississippi. Nine grandchildren, Jymier Slocum, Genesis Mann, Jamarion Hardy, Morghan Hobson, Julian Slocum Jr., Jenna, Karly, Jayden, and King Slocum. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying. Neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away.”
