On March 3, 2019, Evelyn Rogers Dennis passed away after 90 years of life. Evelyn was born on October 21, 1928, in Scott County to Truman and Vida Rogers. She was the older of two siblings. She graduated from Forest High School in 1947 and attended Business School in Jackson, MS. She married the love of her life, Harold Dennis, on December 24, 1948, and had two daughters, Lisa and Faye. She was a teacher’s assistant and retired from the Forest Municipal School District. She was a lifetime member of the Forest United Methodist Church where she attended faithfully as long as she was able. She enjoyed teaching children’s Sunday school and was a long-time member of the Mid-Century Club. In addition to loving her family and friends, Evelyn also loved all of her many pets.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dennis; parents, Truman and Vida Rogers; and sister, Roselyn Folks. She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Walters (Roger) of Forest MS and Reverend Sarah Faye Windham (Edwin) also of Forest, MS; four grandsons, Roy Windham (Kat) of Hattiesburg, MS, Jacob Windham (Hannah) of Laurel, MS, Tyler Walters (Allie) of Brandon, MS, and Cody Walters of Los Angeles, CA; five great-grandchildren, Israel Windham, Stella Grace Walters, Asher Windham, Owen Windham, Charlie Walters; brother in law Percy Folks of Picayune, MS; cousin Betty Pritchett; dear family friends Lauren Johnson, Terri Thomas, Eddie and Paula Clark; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 9:30AM until 10:50AM in the Forest United Methodist Church Sanctuary Forest, MS. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00AM with Jacob Windham and Reverend Sarah Faye Windham officiating. Burial will take place at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Newton, MS. There will be no graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Walters, Cody Walters, Roy Windham, Jacob Windham, Tony Wolf, and Eddie Clark.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Forest United Methodist Church.
