David Ross Mitchell, born on November 16, 1958, in Newton, Mississippi, passed away on July 24, 2025, at UMMC in Jackson, Mississippi. David lived a distinguished life that was marked by his passion for art, music, and broadcasting. He pursued his education at Delta State where he sought a degree in art and music, foreshadowing the creative contributions he would later make throughout his life.
David's career spanned various television stations across Mississippi and Arkansas, culminating at FOX 40 News in Jackson, Mississippi. His dedication to his work was evident, and he left a lasting impact on those who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
Throughout his lifetime, David explored numerous cities across Mississippi and Arkansas, cherishing Oxford, Mississippi, as his favorite place. His love for music and art was not only a cornerstone of his personal interests but also a testament to who he was as an individual—a vibrant and passionate soul who touched the lives of many.
David is survived by his loving mother, Peggy Pettey of Lake, MS; his brother, Joey Mitchell (Kathy) of Lake, MS; and his beloved nieces, Kayla Myers (Stephen) of Lake, MS, and Karley Wells (David) of Lake, MS. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by a host of great nieces and nephews, who will carry forward his legacy.
He is preceded in death by his father, Bobby Joe Mitchell; his grandparents, Otis and Tennie Mitchell; and his paternal grandparents, John and Alene Goodwin.
A visitation to honor David will be held on July 27, 2025, from 2:30 PM until 5:00 PM at Wolf Funeral Services - Lake, located at 136 Front Street, Lake, MS 39092. A funeral service will follow on July 28, 2025, beginning at 9:00 AM and concluding at 10:00 AM, also at Wolf Funeral Services - Lake. A graveside service will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Lawrence, MS. Bro. Jess Dilley, Bro. Ken McLemore and Bro. Chris Spence will officiate under the direction of Wolf Funeral Services.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Goodwin, Jeff Mitchell, Stephen Myers, Brady Smith, Ken Crosby and Mark Crosby.
David will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
