Janice was born on December 19, 1951, as the middle child to L.D. and Lavern Compere of Florence, MS. She graduated from Florence High School in 1969 and soon thereafter met the love of her life. She and Wayne celebrated 44 years of marriage. Together they grew a beautiful family in “love, laughter and hope”.
Janice was known for her beautiful spirit, love of people and eagerness to embrace everyone with her warm smile. She enjoyed celebrating any occasion and always looked for an excuse to fill the home with fun energy. Her faith in God and love of family and friends were the cornerstones of her existence and her ever present compassion was the trademark of her life. She had the ability to make each person in her presence feel special.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Clanton and five children, Jackie (Bryan) McDonald of Ridgeland, Julie (Jason) Mangum of Decatur, T-Bo (Keri) Clanton of Lawrence, Jill (Ashley) Foley of Hickory and Tanner (Claire Milling) Clanton of Lawrence. She is also survived by her father L.D. Compere, sister, Kathy Trim (Dwight) of Brookhaven and brother, Doug Compere (Angela) of Florence, along with many dear cousins and precious nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lavern Laird Compere, mother-in-law, Rogenia Wood Clanton, and father-in-law, Jack Clanton.
She loved being a mother, but her favorite title was Mommaw. Janice was blessed with twelve grandkids that were the joy and celebration in her life: Matt and Laura (Jackie and Bryan McDonald), Cade, Collier, Avery Ruth (Julie and Jason Mangum), Taul, Truss, Turner, Toni Campbell (T-Bo and Keri Clanton), Lauren, Harvey, Hannah (Jill and Ashley Foley).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the First Baptist Church of Lake building fund. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Drs. Nikki Cleveland, Pat Scanlon, Paul Seago along with St Dominic’s Hospital and Laird Hospital for their support.
