Barbara Coward

Apr 24, 1936 — Jul 30, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Barbara Lou Coward, who peacefully entered her heavenly home on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the age of 90.

Born on April 23, 1936, in Missouri, Barbara devoted her life to her faith, her family, and serving others. She was a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where she found great joy in worshiping the Lord and sharing His love through acts of kindness, compassion, and service. Whether teaching, volunteering, preparing meals, visiting those in need, or quietly lending a helping hand, she lived her faith each day with humility and grace.

Her greatest blessing was her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She delighted in gathering her family together and making every person who knew her feel welcomed and loved.

Known for her gentle spirit, generous heart, and warm smile, Barbara encouraged all. She believed that serving others was one of life's greatest callings and faithfully lived by that example. Her kindness touched countless lives, and her encouragement, prayers, and selfless acts will be remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Bryant Coward (Johnna), and daughter, Lynn Powell; grandchildren: Tina Phillipson (Chris Phillipson), Joey Powell, and Ashley Bowen (BoBo Bowen). She was blessed to be a great- grandmother of Tristen and Taylor Phillipson, Mollie and Bailey Coward, Haley, Sarah, and JC May, Peyton Eason, and Brayln Martin. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Wise Driskell; husband Bill Coward; her two sons David May and Danny Tillman; and two grandsons, Dan Tillman and Brian May.

Visitation will be on Sunday, August 02, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, and the celebration of Barbara's life will also be held at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Sunday, August 02, 2026 at 3:00 p.m., with Bro. BJ Frith officiating.

Though our hearts grieve her absence, we rejoice knowing she is now in the presence of her Savior, hearing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." Her legacy of faith, love, generosity, and devotion to family will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

Pallbearers: Timmy Batte, Chris Strunk, Scotty Harris, Bubba Hawkins, and Joey Powell
