Ann Smith, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, at Merit River Oaks in Flowood, Mississippi, at the age of 77. Ann was born on May 11, 1949, in Darlington County, South Carolina,
Ann's life was characterized by her deep devotion to family and community. In 1979, she made her home in the Clifton Community, having previously resided in Gautier, Mississippi. Over the decades, Ann’s warmth and gentle spirit made her a cherished neighbor and friend to many. Her faith was an important part of her life, reflected in her membership at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Forest, Mississippi.
Ann was the heart and soul of her family. She is survived by her sons William (Emily) Poole, Perry (Elissa) Poole, David (Michelle) Poole, and Jerry (Amber) Poole; her sisters, Lillian Bowlin, Juanita Jones, Rachel Martin, and Joyce Freeman; and one brother, Thomas Gainey. Ann also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Ann leaves behind a legacy of love and selflessness, always putting her family first and creating lasting memories with those closest to her.
Ann is preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Mahlon C. Smith Jr., brothers, and sisters
An avid gardener, Ann found joy in cultivating beauty around her home, whether tending to her flowers or simply sitting on her porch, admiring the visiting wildlife. Her talent for crocheting transformed ordinary moments into treasured keepsakes, lovingly crafted for her family and friends. Ann especially relished quiet afternoons, sharing these simple pleasures in the company of her family and her beloved pug, Chyna.
Though she will be deeply missed, Ann’s loved ones will carry forward the lessons she taught—of kindness, steadfastness, and appreciation for the small wonders of daily life. Her memory is held close by her surviving children, grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends who were touched by her generous heart and gentle manner.
Visitation for Ann Smith will be held at Wolf Funeral Services in Morton, Mississippi, on June 29, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., followed by funeral services at 12:00 p.m. at the same location. Interment will take place at Cash Baptist Cemetery in Lena, Mississippi.
