Alford Jimmy Smith, Sr. March 19, 1947 – August 26, 2026

With sadness, the family of Alford Jimmy Smith, Sr., age 79, shares his passing on August 26, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.

Originally from Clarksdale, Mississippi, Alford lived his life on his own terms. He was a free spirit who followed his own path through life.

Alford was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Stanley; his father, Alford Thurman Smith; his brother, Larry Gene Smith; and his grandparents, Floyd and Florence Stanley, Alford L. Smith, and Eddie E. Stewart.

He is survived by his children, Tina Smith (Chris), John Christopher Smith, Alford Jimmy Smith Jr., and Wendy Smith; his brothers and sister, James Earl Smith, Norma Williams (Nelson), and Bobby Smith (Sharon); along with many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

The family is especially grateful to the many friends who became an important part of Alford's life over the years, including Mrs. Janice Cooper and his beloved Pool Tribe. Knowing that he had people in his life who cared for him, shared laughs with him, checked on him, and considered him a friend has meant more to our family than we can express.

Although saying goodbye is never easy, his family takes comfort in knowing that Alford is no longer suffering or in pain. We hope he has found peace and has been reunited with the family and loved ones who went before him.

A Celebration of Life will be held later, once arrangements are made. We will share details with family and friends as soon as they are available.

When that day comes, we hope those who knew and loved Alford will join us.

Bring a story. Bring a laugh. Bring a memory. Most of all, bring yourself.

Those memories will help us celebrate the life he lived and the friendships he made along the way.
